About Our Clinic

Synergy Cardiac & Respiratory Care is a fully accredited facility with experienced and respected physicians specializing in Respirology, Cardiology, Sleep Medicine, and Occupational Health

For a consultation with one of our specialists, a referral from a patient’s family doctor is required.

We are a 5000 square foot clinic equipped with 2 full pulmonary function labs, 2 cardiac exercise stress testing stations, and electrocardiography (ECG) testing. Our Certified Respiratory Educators provide respiratory education services and smoking cessation programs. Another highlight of our clinic is the Wellness of Workers (WoW) Program which is a health surveillance study designed for trade workers who may be exposed to various health risks. It is a comprehensive program focused on early identification and intervention to mitigate or remove risk factors for chronic illness.

Synergy Cardiac & Respiratory Care is located in the Synergy Wellness Centre at 501 Bethel Drive in Sherwood Park, Alberta. This 75 000 square foot facility offers second to none patient care by localizing doctors, practitioners, and therapists all under one roof. This unique building integrates more than 55 health and wellness services including a large medical clinic, DynaLIFE labs, MIC X-ray, women’s wellness facilities, as well as psychologist, chiropractor, and physiotherapy offices.

Most services are covered by Alberta Heath Care.

Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Lyle Melenka


Respirology & Internal Medicine

Dr. Lyle Melenka graduated from medical school in 1981. From there, he specialized in both Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine. In 1993, he obtained a Master Degree in Epidemiology. All his education was completed locally at the prestigious University of Alberta. Dr. Melenka has been involved in countless publications, research projects, and has been an educator in teaching conferences internationally. He has been a practicing respirologist for the past 25 years.

Dr. Melenka founded Synergy Cardiac & Respiratory Care in 2011. This facility offers a full array of respiratory and cardiac testing, as well as occupational health and wellness programs. Full pulmonary testing, spirometry, cardiac exercise stress testing, and ECG testing, can be all performed in the spacious Sherwood Park clinic. Patients enjoy the convenience of free parking and the ability to have further blood work, x-rays, and more, all performed in the same building. Synergy Cardiac & Respiratory Care also heads various research projects, clinical trials, and occupational health programs.

Dr. Melenka is a member of the European Respiratory Society, Canadian Thoracic Society, and University of Alberta.

Dr. Fadi Khadour


Cardiovascular Medicine & Echocardiography

Dr. Fadi Khadour is a world class specialist in cardiovascular medicine. He completed medical school and obtained his Master of Sciences in Pharmacology Degree overseas at the University of Baghdad. He was awarded the University of Baghdad Prize and British Council Prize, Baghdad, in 1987 for ranking 3rd amongst medical college graduates. Among relocating to Alberta he completed his PhD at the University of Alberta in 1999. Dr. Khadour has studied, practiced, and taught at the University of Alberta. Dr. Khadour has given several lectures in general pharmacology, pharmacology & dynamics, cardiovascular pharmacology, and therapeutics. Among Dr. Khadour’s achievements, he has headed several research publications and presentations. Dr. Khadour currently practices out of the Sturgeon Hospital as well as seeing patients twice weekly at Synergy Cardiac & Respiratory Care.

Dr. Khadour is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board for Cardiovascular Disease, the National Board of Echocardiography, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Taha Taher


Cardiovascular Medicine & Echocardiography

Dr. Taha Taher is a certified specialist in cardiovascular medicine. He received his training here at the University of Alberta. He currently holds several portfolios including Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Alberta, Director of chest pain program and GNH, Director of Cardiology Residency training at GNH. He has clinical appointment and is an active clinical staff covering the Coronary Care Unit at GNH and clinical staff at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.

Dr. Taher has had various research publications including sentinel works on Aborted Myocardial Infarction.

Dr. Muhammad T. Naseem

MD, PDPH, MSc (Epidemiology), SPEP (Japan), FRCPC

Specialist in Occupational and Environmental Medicine

Dr. Naseem is currently providing consultation as an Occupational and Environmental Medicine specialist in Alberta. He completed his residency training in the specialty of occupational medicine at the University of Alberta. He was awarded FRCPC by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Naseem initially completed his three years postgraduate training in general surgery subsequent to his MD. He obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health with distinction in 1989 and served as Chief Medical Officer of Health for 8 years. In 1999, he completed his specialty training in Planning and Environment Preservation in Hiroshima, Japan. In 2004, he obtained his Master Degree in Epidemiology from the University of Calgary, Alberta.

Dr. Naseem is very keen about the health of the work force in Canada. He has a vast experience with developing surveillance programs in the industry. He has been engaged in various research projects and programs related to worker’s health at an international level. He currently provides consultation on following occupational medicine related services in Alberta.
